How To Paint Furniture

I found a foot stool at a yard sale last week and knew it would go nicely with this antique chair I have.

Here is the before:

Here is the after:

I used two coats of ASCP in old white and lightly sanded the edges. Once I was done sanding I added a light coat of clear wax. I also changed out the fabric to this lovely burlap. I love how these two pieces look great together. On Thursday, I plan on sharing more projects with you. I am just trying to keep up with the work load. The best thing about working on a piece of furniture, when I am done with it, is seeing the end results. Thanks so much for stopping by. Have a great week and see you all on Thursday!

Vanessa

New Business

Hi, I bet you all have been wondering where I have been. Well, for the past two weeks I have been concentrating on scavenging for old pieces of furniture and remodeling them. I didn't think I would do this, but the opportunity presented it self and I went for it. I do find it difficult at times to manage everything, but I am determined to make this work. I manage my time and give a little to housework, kids, hubby, cooking, cleaning, working out, painting, picking and myself. Not necessarily in that order. I do want to share with you the work I have been doing and the products I used. I also plan on explaining how to use these products.

Anyway, here is a piece I have been working on and wanted to share with you. About two weeks ago I found this lovely Bombay foyer table and I just love the way it looks and I was able to buy it for cheap. Here is the before:

I went with Annie Sloan Old White and clear wax. I just love how it turned out. What do you think?

Do you remember back in April 24, 2012 I wrote a post on chairs I planned on redoing? Well, I am redoing them now. LOL, click here to see a before. This is just one chair, I have three more to go, but what do you think of this chair?

I wanted this child's rocker to be for a boy or girl. I spray painted it pure white and than I sealed it. I love how it turned out too. I have a foot stool, ottoman, and some frames to share with you in a couple of days. I'll keep posting on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I appreciate you coming along with me on this new adventure. Thank you so much for stopping by and I LOVE your Sweet comments.

Hugs,

Vanessa

Painting With Chalk Paint

It's Tuesday and I am behind with my post, but I have a good reason. I have been painting furniture pieces since this weekend. I have to say I have tried ASCP and homemade chalk paint. I do see a difference, however I like the consistency of ASCP. They both stuck to my pieces of wood and non-wood furniture pieces and all the pieces came out beautifully.

This wooden chair I used ASCP in old white and French Linen. I love this chair and I am going to pair it up with a vanity table for my daughter.

I just love this chair and I picked it up at a yard sale for $7. Lovely!

These next pictures are a table and china hutch. I used my own chalk paint. I was very pleased with the results and I have to say I will use this method again. The reason why I would use this method again is because the cost is cheaper and two, I can take any color latex paint and make it into chalk paint. I used 1 cup of Plaster of Paris and 1 cup of hot water and mixed it well. Next I added 2 cups of Glidden paint in a white satin finish and mixed. The mixture should not be soupy but a like pancake batter. See In my own style for a full tutorial, Diane does a great job of explaining all the different paints and homemade chalk recipes.

If you have any other questions just leave a comment or email me. I am grateful that you stopped by today and I pray you have a great week.

Hugs,

Vanessa
